Resume: A Grad School Application Necessity

While searching for my resume the other day, I realized it was just around this time last year that I was working on grad school applications! It was a stressful time and a very expensive time of the year for me! Applying to grad school required a lot of organization and patience!

One of the most important things for grad school is having your resume up-to-date and presentable. There are so many different formats that it could get so confusing which format to use! Finally after consulting A LOT of people and MANY edits, I finally got a resume ready to submit for grad school. The key is to have 1 generic resume and be able to alter it according to the program or job you are applying to.

Here are bits of my resume in hopes that it would help someone while prepping for grad school apps! PS: remember, your resume doesn’t have to be 1 page if you have relevant information to add.

Once your resume is done! You are almost ready for applications! All you have left is personal statement and uploading all your information! And of course, your GRE if you have not taken it yet (highly recommend taking it ASAP if you haven’t just in case if you would like time to retake it, also, it’s just 1 less thing on your to-do list).

Add education experience most current to latest. Add relevant work experience (most recent to latest). Add a brief description on your responsibilities.

Add a few awards/honors (this is not necessary but if you have some it will “spice” up your resume. If you have publications, ADD them to your resume!! Add “Research and Computer Skills” just to make it easier for admissions to review your application.

Optional: make yourself look like a “all-rounded” person. Who are you outside lab/science?
