Scrapbooking a lab notebook!

Ever take a science class and have to write in a lab notebook? Ever been annoyed at the fact that you have to write everything down? Every step, any deviations, observations, on top of that you have to write an analysis! How boring!!

Well let’s think of it as scrapbooking.

You go on vacation or do something memorable with friends, family or significant others you want to document it. Just the same way, scientists want to document their every step so that as you scrapbook and can look back at those pictures and words and remember the wonderful memories; scientists want to look back and be able to reproduce the same memories which we like to think of it as data!

So how does the process work?

Format for Lab Notebook and how this translates to scrapbooking:

  1. Title: what are your memeories about? Ex. Wedding, Hawaii, Backpacking through Europe, Sweet 16 etc…

  2. Abstract: little snip-bit about what you experienced.

  3. Introduction: Where did you go, who was involved, why?

  4. Materials/Methods: what did you pack? What did you gift? Did you fly there? Was it a road trip? What did you need during the trip that was special (camera?)

  5. Results: How did the vacation go? What did you do? Who did you see? Etc etc…

  6. Discussion: Sum it up!! Family pic/group pic etc.

  7. Literature: how did you plan your trip/vacation/party etc. Did you use any resources? Websites? Travel sites/agents…

See, its simple as that… Just think of writing a lab notebook as scrapbooking! Or vice versa?

Enjoy lab notebooking!! 😀
