A day in Kansas City, MO

Want a quick break from life and do a weekend trip?! Well perfect, because that is all you need for Kansas City, MO!

A friend of mine and I did a mini-vacation to Kansas City last weekend and by 4:00PM on Saturday, we were done with all the touring we could do!! Heres how you tackle KC, MO!!

Basic Itinerary for the weekend.

When starting to drive, the address you want to put is for the original KC Joe’s BBQ spot which is attached to a small gas station. The BBQ was delicious! The brisket is a must try! Although, I have realized I do not have a very sophisticated BBQ pallet so the BBQ tasted the same to me as the one in STL.

Beef Brisket and Spicy Slaw

You want to start off your morning fresh! We stayed in a hotel that gave us complimentary continental breakfast! It was great!! Nothing like free breakfast in the morning and fresh waffles!! After breakfast, make sure to go stand in like at Boulevard Brewery to get your complimentary tour tickets!! They get sold out EARLY!  Do not underestimate the EARLY! We almost did not get our tickets. Accordingly, you can squeeze in the other things you have to do that day! We were fortunate and got our tickets around 2:30/3PM!

After the tickets, head over to the Hallmark Museum for a free self-guided tour! Parking is free in the parking garages!! Don’t waste time looking for parking on the street! Make sure to check out the bow-making machine and get your free Hallmark Bow!

Snow and Co was a really unique spot we went to. They specialize in frozen cocktails! The best deal is to share with a friend and get the flight of everything! Trust me, you won’t regret this delicious frozen treats, especially on a HOT summer day!!

A flight of frozen treats!

Don’t forget to eat lunch!! There were some really cool looking restaurants around the area. We decided to go to Lulu’s Thai for lunch! The spring rolls and the lettuce wraps were so refreshing!!

Keep an eye out for the time, you don’t want to miss your brewery tour (you want to get there at least 15 mins before your tour)! By far one of the best tours I have gone on. The tour guide was very engaging, sarcastic and funny! Lots of history and if you like beer, lots of tasting opportunities!!

During the tour!

After the tour, you are pretty much done with touring KC! The following spots are optional, depending on how much time you spend at the brewery and if you just want to go back to the hotel. Loose park has a really small center where you can walk around and check out some of the roses they have planted. It is basically a round about of roses! Next you can go to the Art Museum, but instead of being bored inside, you can hang out outside and take selfies with some of the sculptures! My favorite was a glass maze that you can walk in!

Loose Park-Rose Garden

If you like going out at night, the Power and Light District is a popping place! Lots of restaurants, clubs, bars to hangout in! You can spend the rest of your night there or cozy in your hotel room!

The next day: You must check out the City Market!! By far the best thing I did in KC!! Its an amazing place with lots of things to experience. Lots of small shops you can go in, and delicious restaurants you can get breakfast/lunch at!! My favorite was a beignet spot!! AMAZING beignets! Def satisfy the craving for the mean time before I have to go to New Orleans!

Entrance of the City Market

Lots of people RAVED about the Crown Country Plaza, but I didn’t think it was very special! I went to KC to tour it and see what it’s all about, not to go to a mall for shopping. If I want to shop, I don’t need to drive 4 hrs to do so! We spent time walking around the plaza on Saturday, but I highly suggest just driving around it, taking it in and be on your merry way. Of course, if you would like to shop, feel free to spend more time there!!

And there you go! That’s Kansas City in a nut shell. Take that time off and do a mini-vacation from where ever you are and visit KC, ofcourse, if you have more time, come visit me in STL!!
